Hello there! Let’s take a moment to sip some coffee and savor the delightful journey we embarked on with Commoner Co., the umbrella brand that brings us the charming Common House—a café by day and a restaurant by night. As Commoner Co. seeks to branch out with a second location and venture into the exciting world of roasting, our challenge was to brew a brand identity that was as fluid and adaptable as their business model.
My goal was to capture the essence of Common House’s dual nature and Commoner Co.’s expansion while maintaining a cohesive look and feel that customers could recognize and connect with, no matter the setting.
Inspired by the concept of the "commoner"—relatable, versatile, and welcoming to all—I crafted a brand identity that felt grounded and approachable yet modern and eye-catching. The logo I designed was simple yet sophisticated, that could rotate out language to easily mark the different branches of the business. I paired this with icons illustrated in an old-world style to mark different facets of their business.
The unveiling of the new brand identity for Commoner Co. and Common House was met with enthusiasm and love from customers old and new. The seamless transition between the café, restaurant, and roastery offerings under one cohesive brand identity has not only strengthened their market presence but also built a stronger connection with the community.
Working with Commoner Co. was a reminder of the beauty in simplicity and the strength of a well-crafted brand identity. This project challenged me to think creatively about versatility and unity, leading to a brand identity that truly represents the essence of Commoner Co. and its endeavors.
